The Estrobolome’s Role in Hormone Balance, Part 1

Podcast

More and more consumers are aware of probiotics, but most of them think of their importance as being only for digestive health. Some have made the connection between probiotics, a healthy gut, and immune health, but there are other health areas that they positively affect as well. We now have research that points to the importance of a healthy gut microbiome for optimal function throughout the body, including hormone balance. There is an aspect of the microbiome called the ‘estrobolome’ that is uniquely in charge of managing hormone production and detoxification; without a healthy gut, hormone health will not be optimal. Naturopathic physician and integrative practitioner Dr. Aimée Shunney details the estrobolome’s role in managing hormone production and detoxification. She describes the estrobolome as a collection of bacteria in the gut which is capable of metabolizing and modulating the body's circulating estrogen. It is the bacteria in the gut, and the estrobolome, that affect estrogen levels. Click HERE for part 2.
